Interpreting Rates

The cost of an interpreting assignment is determined on the basis of a Request for Interpreting Services form, filled out by the Customer (download a Request For Interpreting Services Form).

The cost of interpreting depends on the following factors:

а) method of interpreting;

There are two types of interpreting, simultaneous and consecutive (please see the sections Simultaneous Interpreting and Consecutive Interpreting).

Simultaneous interpreting costs more than consecutive interpreting for a number of reasons (please see the above-mentioned sections), and the difference may be considerable.

Yet despite the relatively high costs, at some events (top-level meetings etc) where the number of participants is high and rigid schedules are in operation, simultaneous interpreting is the only option.

b) setting and level of the event;

Interpreting at top-level events can only be assigned to the best professionals in the industry with corresponding backgrounds and experience. Simultaneous interpreters are few in number, and, as a consequence, are in great demand. Also, if a linguist is good at simultaneous interpreting, it does not mean he or she will be able to manage industry-specific terminology and subjects. This puts yet more limitations on the choice of interpreters for top-level events and has a direct impact on the cost of the service.

However, at other events, such as business meetings, requirements will be less demanding, and the atmosphere will be less stressful in general. As such, interpreting will cost less.

c) language combination;

Linguists capable of quality interpreting to and from exotic tongues are fewer still, and in much greater demand. Naturally, their services are not for those on tight budgets. Interpreting to/from major European languages from/to Russian will cost less.

d) industry;

Interpreters with adequate expertise in medicine, oil and gas industry, economics, law, IT etc. are also in great demand.

e) number of participants in the event;

Interpreting during an informal meeting with a restricted number of participants requires far less effort than relaying a message to an audience of 2,000 listeners.

f) number of interpreters;

g) other factors.
